BJP, Congress cancel events in UP after Air India crash kills 241

Following the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad that claimed 241 lives, political parties across Uttar Pradesh have cancelled their scheduled programmes as a mark of respect. The incident, which left only one survivor among the 242 onboard, has sent shockwaves across the country and led to a pause in political activities.

Uttar Pradesh BJP president Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary confirmed that all events scheduled for June 13, and some on June 12, were cancelled immediately after news of the crash. “We stand with the grieving families in this hour of national tragedy,” he said.

The Congress has also called off all its events, with state unit chief Ajay Rai stating they have been replaced with ‘shraddhanjali sabhas’ to honour the lives lost. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath cancelled all public engagements for Friday, choosing instead to remain in administrative meetings following the national mourning.

The Samajwadi Party (SP) announced the suspension of its events for the next three days. Party leaders said this decision was taken in solidarity with the crash victims and their families, with instructions issued across all district units to observe silence and mourning.
